Ms. Peg Bostwick, the 2004 State, Tribal, and Local Program Development winner, has continued to work with Michigan's wetland program as the chief of the Wetlands, Inland Lakes and Streams Unit in the Land and Water Management Division, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. Much of the division's recent efforts have centered around monitoring and assessment approaches to support both regulatory and non-regulatory programs.

Bostwick and her staff recently completed a rapid assessment method ("MiRAM") that will be used in their permit program, and eventually statewide. They also continue to update regulations to maintain Section 404 Program consistency and, in conjunction with Michigan's academic community, continue to support the development of bioassessment tools. By 2010, Bostwick and her department hope to meet a "short-term" goal established several years ago: restoring 50,000 acres of wetlands.
